MP govt accuses Digvijay Singh of fraud

Bhopal: One of the first malls constructed in Indore, Treasure Island, is also known as Mini Mumbai. The land - originally marked as residential area in the Indore master plan - was permitted to be used for commercial use by the state government.
The area of 30 metres by 60 metres was granted for construction, but when the notification was issued, it allowed construction on double the area first allotted. It was also decided that the mall will be built in partnership with the MP Housing Board.
But in 2003, the board withdrew from the deal and according to the complainant Mahesh Garg, this was done at the behest of then chief minister Digvijay Singh.
Counsel for the complainant, Manohar Dalal says, "Digvijay Siongh was the chief minister and to benefit his friends, the Kalani Group, all this was done. Also the government withdrew from the partnership when the time to earn profits came."
Digvijay Singh's 10-year-rule in Madhya Pradesh saw many charges of corruption labelled against him and Singh in the past had even challenged the BJP government to prove these charges.
This is the first time that a case under Section 420 of the IPC and under several sections of the Prevention of the Corruption Act has been registered against him.
Investigation Officer EOW, Arun Jain says, "There is a clear cut case of corruption and Digvijay Singh was the chief minister. We have registered a case."
The BJP, during the recent Vidhan Sabha elections, successfully pitched its campaign against Digvijay Singh's misrule. With the Lok Sabha polls round the corner, the party is now likely to draw leverage from the charges.
